A short update,
The funeral has now come and gone. Ola has been laid to rest and now the business at hand is for his brother to take care of his financial issues, which I hear is not any fun at all. I never thought that I would be writing about the passing of Ola. However in my own way along with a few other people that knew Ola, we do not find it all that much of a surprise. Ola lived the way he wanted and made no apologies for doing so. He was a man of character, a lot of character. In fact he was a quite the character. We will all miss him. I for on already miss IMing and skyping with him, listening to his latest conquests. Meanwhile his bride is depressed and saddened by this turn of events. I encourage all that read this to get in touch with Min. If you need to contact me please leave message here in the comments section and I will put you in touch with her. The funeral for Ola will be on the 11th of Dec near Stockholm, Sweden. There is no new news about the killers.  The people that I am in regular communication with in Cambodia are a little fearfull for their lives, and they seem to have a little Post Traumatic Stress related to this event.

As I write this news.  Eric the hotel owner where Ola was last seen alive, is speaking to 5 Khemer Police.  They want to interogate him again.  The crowds of police are getting to be smaller and smaller.  At first it was up to 30 police, then 13, and now only 5.  Eric is afraid for his life.  He  has some video of these guys and its been in the press.  Just yesterday, a Khemer man wearing a bandana over his face to cover all but his eyes, came to the hotel to talk with Eric. It seems that this masked man wanted to go after the black men that were causing problems in their country.  He wanted to see the video.  Eric not knowing this guy and being afraid for his life told his security guard that he no longer had the video that it was now in the custody of the police.  When I hear more from Eric, I will post it here.  Stay tuned.
The last 24 hours have been a bit of a roller coaster for me.  As it turns out.  While living abroad, I spent nearly 1 year on Cambodian soil.  I am not fluent by any means however I did take the time to learn a bit of the language.

Todays story is that a friend who was originally from Sweden, he was back in Cambodia, after suffering a terrible accident.

Ola's story is a true tale of fighting for his life for the last 2 years.  Its sad that on this day I tell you he has passed in a brutal unthinkable way.  He was murdered and likely tortured by some people from Nigeria.  In order to get him to give up his room information and the combination to his safe in the hotel room he occupied.  I spoke with a good friend, Eric in Cambodia, and found that he had the back of his head hit so hard that it split open.  His body had been tossed into a field out side of Phnom Penh.  He had been lured to his death by a woman that he met through the website www.tagged.com. After they extracted the information they needed and his keys.  These cunning killers then rented a room in the same hotel as Ola to carry out their devious plan.  With one man being look out and the other entering his room to pilfer and steal every item of value.  They then made a hasty exit, and tried to hide.  Ola is a man that lived doing what he loved.  Through Mr. Roy's wife Marry the chief of police (Marry's Uncle) took an interest in this crime, in an unusual way.  In fact already one of the predators is behind bars in the land that brought us Pol Pot and the killing fields.  Ola died with his boots on.  Chasing the chicken that has oh so many meanings and for him they all hold a little truth.  In this case some interpretations for the chicken might be, Freedom, and also the British slang for a woman.  However in either case Ola will be missed by his friends, family, and wife.  He had spent the last two years recovering from a motorcycle accident that nearly cost him his life, the photo of his leg is above.  It was his legg injury that made his body so easy to identify.  He was often short tempered, and easily bored, however he cared very much about those around him and it showed.
Ola you will be missed, the cigarettes as it turns out were never you downfall.
With love and respect.
Ken

Farewell Ola

Yes, Ola was "easily bored", but as I've always said, ONLY BORING PEOPLE ARE BORED, and Ola was truly boring as he had absolutely no true passion in life at all beyond chasing the chicken that in the end was obviously his demise. I never once saw him read a book, tinker with or fix something on his own, cook a meal or create anything with his own hands. I would have to say he only "seemingly cared" much about those around him and in most cases he only did so because he was an extremely lonely being who hated being alone above and beyond anything else. Why else would a man get in a car with near total strangers to visit some woman half his age at her grandmothers house who he'd only so far seen a picture of on a website. Not that he wasn't friendly , he was , extremely friendly but once he did consider you his friend you could bet your bottom dollar he would inevitably say the most hurtful thing to you at the most inappropriate public moment as he did to one of my close sensitive friends just minutes before he got into that highly debilitating accident a year or so ago. BAM , instant KARMA , ... lets face it , we all saw it coming . This was not a whisper but a scream from the Universe for Ola to start anew and actually be more caring to those around him and himself , by creating a life of more worth which he was indeed capable of. He spent his final days at SCAN HOTEL flipping between looking at porn on the internet, cruising tagged.com looking for new "friends" and visiting internet boat brokers looking to purchase a large vessel that he hoped to turn into a floating brothel with himself at the helm and a Vietnamese crew , because in his words " Philipino's can't be trusted and the Vietnamese will work for cheap" . This was his final aspiration and truly a wasted second chance after what had happened to him the year before. One had to wonder where he had thought his lovely wife Min fit into that picture. I could only imagine the word "foursome" describing it. Never the less there was admittedly something unusually endearing about the man at times and no one could possibly wish the type of fearful final moments he must of experienced on anyone. The night before his body was found I experienced almost an entire hour of horrid physical discomfort and was fairly certain that Ola was simultaneously going through far worse and was in his final moments. At least Ola's pain has stopped, mine goes on as because of this incident my life is now at risk and I am now a prisoner in my own hotel due to threats of retribution by uncaught perpetrators or their friends or from some hired guns. Even the Khmer newspapers warn that "the owner of SCAN HOTEL should not go outside of the hotel " I've been told that the hotel is being watched by police but I see no evidence of this claim . Over the last week there have been close to a hundred or more police on property but they seem more interested in a free lunch or a monetary donation than providing any type of protection that could last or be of any help once they fill their stomachs and go home. To their credit , the Phnom Penh Tourist Police worked with amazing and unprecedented efficiency once they were provided with the suspects images from the hotels security cameras. I'd like to think this is the norm but know it is only because of the wife of one of Ola's friends who's Uncle is the Chief of Phnom Penh's Police Department , or at least some or one division of it. Unfortunately the rest of the investigation or what's now left of it has fallen under the scope of several smaller and perhaps less important and less powerful city and provincial police divisions who seemingly care even less about the results of their actions as Ola did when he would bring his careless and immature "sexcapades" onto the hotel property. If I had been present when Ola had initially checked in , he wouldn't have been able to because I would have said that we were fully booked with no available rooms which I've done before and consider a white lie at best because it would have been and always was the best way to avoid the activity that always came with a stay from Ola. We also could have avoided this incident if my own security guards had followed my orders and come and got me at 4:30 AM on the 11th when Ola came home with a female friend who did not have the ID required to be allowed to enter the hotel grounds. Sadly instead the guard opted to extort a dollar from the girl rather than follow my orders which would have allowed me the opportunity to turn the girl away and also would have most likely caused Ola to change hotels either immediately or the following day. I doubt it would have saved the life of someone with such a persistent libido but it certainly would have saved SCAN from the hassles and unfortunate position it currently is having to endure. The last 3 1/2 years have been truly trying and difficult much of which but hardly all or the majority of which in reflection has been my own doing. There seems no end to the level of surprise I continue to experience as I attempt to do business here in Cambodia. I have been through so much that I never could have imagined and even more that one never would expect or even begin to believe possible. If you had told me a month ago that I would end up being the victim of a "sex crime" I would have laughed it away as a joke or some crazy notion .... but here I sit unable to shake a looming discomfort in my own hotel feeling as if Uncle Ernie has slipped into my bedroom with a girlie magazine and no intention at all of reading the storybook that sits on the bedside table. Everything happens for a reason and all things change. Everything happens for a reason and all things change. Everything happens for a reason and all things change. Ok , maybe it's not the most original mantra , but it's mine damn it and it's all I got. Thanks Ola , seriously , thanks, really I mean it , thanks !!! I don't hold grudges and allow you the freedom to move on to the next realm. I know it might be difficult under the circumstances but I urge you to do so. You will feel better and it's better for all, I promise. Besides , the last thing my guests need to see is some ghost masturbating in the corner of their room.
With great sadness, slight admiration and slowly fading resentment
the man from SCAN
