Socialized Education vs Public Health insurance

I was having dinner tonight with my daughter and her mother. It came to me, when my daughter asked whats the difference between public schools and private schools. The answer we gave was that sometime publics schools can be better than private ones and some times the are not. However, what is important is that everyone gets an education. Then I thought wait if its a good idea to educate our children why is not ok to keep them healthy and give them decent health care too? We have a public school system that we entrust our children to. However we have no public health system to rely upon. Why is that? Socialized education is good, but health care is not.

I had this discussion later with my mom. You see as it turns out my sister is a well to do stock broker, catering to the elite. You would think that her health care is the best that you could have. However recently when she was ill, she had to pay nearly 20K$ additional to get the care she really wanted. So even with the best health care you must pay more to get to the front of the line. What have we got to lose by flooding the market with doctors and nurses, by providing socialized education? If we provide free education could we not have those future doctors pay back that debt with some years of service to the public?
