My mom taught me to fight for what I believe in. She does not always agree with the fights I pick, however she taught me the process. As a child I worked on political campaigns for Jackie Spear. After the assassination of of Leo Ryan, Jackie Spear followed in his foot steps. I learned about Roberts Rules of Order, and parliamentary procedure. I ran for office in my junior high on the student government. This was only the beginning. I had no idea where it would lead at the time. I remember trying to lead a student walk out in support of the teachers efforts to get paid what they are worth. As it turns out, myself and one other student also walked out. We were reprimanded for our efforts. However I did not let that failure persuade me to stop my political calling. In high school I remained low key and honed my skills as a public speaker. I participated in the Lyons Club speakers club. I took third place in a competition. Once I left high school, my calling began to toll. At Skyline College I ran for and won the vice presidents post for the student body. We had a $35,000 budget. We spent other students money freely and willingly not fully understanding the impact that we were having. We were directed by a woman named Marsha, she directed us to allocate money as she saw fit and we just took it for granted that she knew best. In hind site I am not so sure we did the best thing by the students, but at least we made Marsha happy.
