The SF Board of Supervisors is at it again. Not being content with taxing medical pot, they are seeking to raise revenues "creatively" in many ways, including a special tax on alcohol (EtOH), ostensibly to defray the costs to the City of treating people for consumption. It may sound rational, but it is anything but sane. Let's look at recent history. Pot clubs are now being taxed into closure. Fees on top of taxes on top of legal retainers, and the obligatory "campaign donations" have shut down over half the clubs, and caused the rest to raise prices and end the "compassion" program of giving free pot to indigent patients. Yet, none of the monies raised in any way are used to benefit medical pot patients. No one can tell where all that money is going, but it's a safe bet most of it is lining pockets and not helping the City at all.

Let's keep in mind that bridge tolls were supposed to end when the bridges were paid for. And the Lottery was going to save the schools. The problem is that once the politicians hire their pals to be in commissions and committees and all that, they justify their existence and use the tax money on themselves, as in the case with homelessness in SF. If the money spent on Angela Aliota and her pals to sit around and act like they're useful were spent on obtaining actual buildings, we could have most, if not all, of the homeless inside. There is this tendency to justify our existance, and because of the Normal Self Serving Bias, we rarely, if ever, are able to comprehend that we aren't all that we think we are. When in a position of power, most of us will surround ourselves with sycophants who tell us what we want to hear, which results in what I call The Elvis Syndrome. That's when you start believing your own PR. That's when you stop listening to anyone who disagrees with you or tries to tell you how full of it you're getting.

When you add up the costs of implementing and collecting a new tax, then add in the costs for enforcement and punishment for those who don't pay, the result is that it often, if not always, costs more than can be collected. So, our officials have to come up with more ways to raise revenue, and hustlers, shysters, and grifters come up with new ideas to collect revenue, which cost even more to collect . . . "lather, rinse, repeat" endlessly.

That's not the only reason I oppose Prop 19. Last Saturday there was a rally in the Civic Center for John Dennis' campaign. I spoke with a Prop 19 supporter who, when I told him why I was against the proposition, gave me a cheezy smile and yammered something about "YEs, it's not a perfect law, just pass it and we'll fix it." Really? Well, what got us in this mess? Bad laws, on the Federal and State level. None of those bad laws are being fixed. Why keep passing bad laws instead of writing a good law? The man's reaction to this was to turn to others and make some very nasty, gender hate comments about me and how messed up I was. Way to promote your cause, pal! Thanks for proving that only drug thugs and their girlfriends support this latest legal mess.

Of course there isn't any way to avoid taxes. What I propose is a flat tax Everyone pays the same rate. This will mean that the richest won't be able to find new loopholes written in by those politicians whose campaigns they financed. Tax lawyers, tax accountants will have to find new lines of work, but what of that? Seems like no one cared much about all the outsourced workers in other fields. I'd base the tax on total amounts taken in, by individuals and corporations. All sources, that is. No exemptions, no tax breaks. Ending "entitlement programs" based on "family status" ended, of course, because it's clearly discrimination to those who can't or won't breed. For those of you concerned about "the children" keep in mind that there are charities, there are religious organizations that are able to discriminate in favor of breeders, and anyone so very concerned about "the children" is free to donate to those charities and religious organizations.

And let's never forget that the single problem that is causing all the others to get worse is OVERPOPULATION. My generation of women, the generations before mine, had to fight to make reproduction optional for women. Tax breaks and welfare are a form of gender bias to help trap women in the role of breeder, and the plain fact is we don't need that particular ability right now, we can't house, feed, and employ those alive now.

If you're one of those "but the problem is we don't share well and don't distribute resources fairly," could you please 'splain how adding even more needy children will make us generous and willing to reduce our own living standards to help OTHER PEOPLE'S CHILDREN? Sure, you breeders may like it now, getting those huge tax breaks, but you will be most upset, when your children grow up, you're trying to save for your retirement, and your tax rate goes up a few orders of magnitude to pay for OTHER PEOPLE'S CHILDREN . .. you will whine, "that's not fair!"

See what we've got here? Variations of the Ponzi Scheme. We can't breed our way out of overpopulation anymore than we can tax our way out of civic insolvency.

Time for some new ideas, time to get rid of those whose programs got us in this mess, and have no incentive to get us out.

How about a real simple concept: SHARE YOUR SURPLUS. And never forget the Golden Rule. That's far too simple a solution for those who prefer to create a problem for a "solution" that benefits them the most.
