As it turns out, there is a little self deception going on. As Dr. O'Connell will be happy to tell you we as humans could lead to our own demise. He came about this conclusion with his cannabis applicant interviews. It goes like this with the best of intentions congress passed the CSA (Controlled Substances Act) their intentions were to "protect" the youth from what they perceived as harmful drugs. Before the 1950's all through out the United States of America there was virtually no cannabis available and no-one smoke it or used other than to make rope. Now in hind site with billions upon billions spent trying to "protect" the youth, more people than ever have tried pot. So the logical conclusion is that creating legislation against something is the best advertising to initiate folks and mostly the youth in to doing something that they might not already be doing.
Now on to the the health care debate. The logic would follow that to pass a health care bill, congress might do well to (act like) the were going to mandate being obese and outlaw health care all together. This will create a black market for health care and force people to open their eyes about the serious issue of fast food and poor diet. However nothing could be father than what is likely to happen. Now that big business has all the constitutional rights as people and can lobby the legislature with their big bucks, these multinational companies will be controlling our lives more than ever. We will be eating their corporate agenda by the spoonful, whether we like it or not. The issues of climate change and health care will only come to light when the population is choking to death on food and toxic fumes. When the cheap labor that fuels the economic engines can not come to work because they are just too sick. Then and ONLY then will it be in the best interest of big business to do something about these issues. We are on a course of path dependence. We collectively are in self denial and have been down this road so far that its imposible to make a radical course change. Maybe our leaders are counting on "GOD" to help us out of this one...The way I see it, G.O.D. the Good Old Dollar is getting weaker and weaker and not even G.O.D. is going to be strong enough to help..
Good luck to us all.
